　レソト王国　／Kingdom of Lesotho

南アフリカ共和国に国全体を取り囲まれているレソト王国は、特異な地理的条件を持つ国です。「天空の王国」として知られるレソト王国は、世界で唯一、国土の80%以上が標高1,800メートルを超える高地に位置し、独特の景観を誇ります。

この高地の景観が、レソト独特の個性と豊かな自然を形作っています。息を呑むような雄大な山々、深い渓谷、清らかな河川網を水源とする力強い滝の数々も、こうした独特の自然環境が作り出したものです。気候は温暖で、夏は涼しく、冬は寒く、安定した降雪量があります。

レソトの経済は、農業、繊維・衣料品製造、そしてダイヤモンド採掘を基盤としています。アフリカにおける衣料品生産の主要拠点であり、高い製造能力を誇ります。さらに、野心的な「レソト・ハイランド・ウォーター・プロジェクト」を通じて、最も豊富な資源である水を輸出しています。

こうした地理的・人的資源は、将来の発展に向けた有望な道筋を示しています。クリーンエネルギーの創出、持続可能な観光、高付加価値農業、水資源の輸出といった分野への進出に大きな可能性が秘められています。

Nestled entirely within the Republic of South Africa, the Kingdom of Lesotho is a nation of singular geography. Renowned as the "Kingdom in the Sky," it holds the distinction of being the only country in the world to lie entirely above 1,000 meters in elevation, with over 80 per cent of its terrain soaring above 1,800 meters.

This high-altitude landscape defines Lesotho's unique character and natural wealth. It features breathtaking scenery of rugged mountains, deep valleys, and dramatic waterfalls, fed by a network of pristine rivers. The climate is temperate, offering cool summers and cold winters with reliable snowfall.

Lesotho's economy is built upon a foundation of agriculture, textiles and apparel manufacturing, and diamond mining. It is a major African hub for garment production, boasting significant manufacturing capacity. Furthermore, the nation exports its most abundant resource, water, through the ambitious Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

These geographic and human assets create promising avenues for future development. Significant potential exists to expand into sectors such as clean energy generation, sustainable tourism, high-value agriculture and export of water resources.
